Every week I teach a class on roleplaying real estate scripts with other real estate agents in my office. I’ve been doing this for many years.
This week I had a conversation with one of the agents about making our lives and jobs easier. To move up in business and make more sales you constantly need to look for ways to make improvements.
We went over the staircase approach to success. Doing things step by step.
Beginning with “Personal Mastery” then moving on to “Working Hard” and then “Making Life Easier.”
It’s important for these three steps to be learned in phases. I so often see people who want to bypass the first two steps and just go right into “Making Life Easy.” It’s not that simple. Without committing to the process of gradually improving, step by step you will run the risk of collapsing into failure.
To succeed in selling real estate or for anything in life, you have to begin with “Personal Mastery.”
How disciplined are you? How well do you manage your emotions? How much control do you have over your time? Are you getting enough sleep? Do you have the energy needed to work 8 to 10 hour days? How is your diet? Do you have any vices that are preventing you from succeeding? How do you feel about constant and ongoing education and self-improvement? Do you have any mentors that can help you along the way? Do you have the ability to focus on tasks until they get done, or are you easily distracted? Can you manage in stressful situations? Are you dealing with trauma? Can you think dynamically and creatively? Can you reprogram your subconscious thoughts? Are you resonating at a high vibration?
Personal Mastery is at the foundation of any type of success because it’s YOU who is doing the work to make yourself successful. How well you show up is foundational to your success. YOU are the one doing the job.
Once you have developed personal mastery, it’s on to “Hard Work.” Putting in the time, sweat and focus to do simple tasks over and over again until you generate the result that you want. There are no shortcuts to success. At one point in time, we all had to grind out achievement.
Yet, many people get stuck “working hard.” I always say, “Hard work is part of the formula, it’s not the solution or the final destination.” Once you have put in the time and energy into working hard, you have to start asking yourself a very important question. “How can I make this easier?”
If you never try to make your life easier, inevitably you end up with a difficult life. You end up doing things the hard way for a very long time.
Only after you have achieved a base level of success, then you can begin asking yourself how can you become more efficient, and get the same results or even better results with less and less effort.
These are not the only steps, there are many other steps to this journey. But these are the steps that I have committed to mastering and they are the ones that have helped me achieve my current levels of success.
By no means is my journey over, in fact, I feel at the age of 43, I’m just getting started.
So, let me ask you, where do you see yourself on the staircase of success?
Have you felt stuck somewhere? Who do you turn to for help? What are some steps that you have discovered along the way that have gotten you closer and closer to success?
I would love to hear from you, let’s talk soon.
