Meeting Eckhart Tolle

A Trip to Remember

Last month, Alejandra and I went to Miami and saw Eckhart Tolle speak in person. It really helped me understand things better.

Eckhart Tolle is one of my favorite writers. He wrote The Power of Now and A New Earth.

I’ve listened to The Power of Now as an audiobook at least seven times, probably more.

Alejandra and I, excited to see Eckhart Tolle live in Miami.

The Challenge of Being Present

Eckhart teaches being present to the moment, which has always fascinated me.

I’ve struggled to “be present” and to just appreciate the present moment for what it is.

I suffer from having a restless mind — when my brain keeps thinking and jumps from one idea to the next. Always thinking, always worrying. I get lost in my thoughts and then stop paying attention to what I’m actually doing.

Before the seminar began — soaking it all in.

When It Finally Clicked

Learning to be present didn’t come easy for me — not because it’s difficult to do, but because I wasn’t used to it, and I was making it a lot harder than it actually was.

I knew that seeing Eckhart in person would help me get a better grasp of being present to the moment.

During the seminar, something clicked. Not in a dramatic way, but more like:

  • “Oh, this is actually simpler than I’ve been making it.”

Eckhart Tolle, live on stage. A quiet voice with powerful clarity.

What Presence Has Taught Me

The benefits of being present to the moment include less worrying and stress.

Most of my worrying and stress comes from thinking about the past or what might happen in the future.

Being present to the moment also allows me to appreciate life and all the incredible moments that happen day to day —
like appreciating this very moment as my fingertips hit the keyboard one moment at a time.

Anger, Emotions, and Growth

But the biggest benefit has been reducing the number of times I overreact when I get angry.

Getting angry is part of being human. My problem is when the anger takes control of me and I overreact.

The more present I feel, and the more connected I feel to the universe, the easier it’s been to process my emotions and not let anger control me.

Simplicity in the Present Moment

The whole experience reminded me that we often overcomplicate things.
Being present isn’t about achieving some perfect state of mind — it’s just about being here, now.

Listening to Eckhart made me realize that being present isn’t a difficult task that takes years to master.

Sometimes the most impactful experiences aren’t major ones with dramatic revelations — but the quiet moments when things just start making a bit more sense.

A special day of learning and reflection — one we’ll always remember.
